Golden State Warriors’ head coach Don Nelson put himself in the record books forever on Wednesday evening, as he surpassed Lenny Wilkens with his 1,333rd career win tonight during the team’s 116-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Nelson had approx. 20 family members at tonight’s game to watch him witness history, as forward Ronny Turiaf poured Gatorade onto his 78-yeard old coach’s head in the closing moments.
The Warriors were able to win without two key guys, as guard Monta Ellis (flu) & forward Anthony Randolph (knee) both sat due to injuries.
This opened the door for Anthony Tolliver, who scored a career-high 34 points in just his 25th career start.
Stephen Curry continued his late push to become the team’s first Rookie of the Year award winner since Chris Webber in 1993-94, as he scored 27 points, dished 14 assists & grabbed 8 rebounds in an outstanding all-around performance.
Despite Nelson’s historic win tonight, Golden State has already clinched their 2nd consecutive losing season & 3rd straight season of missing the playoffs.
