The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a 4-year contract extension with their 26-year old outfielder Adam Lind, who will now remain with the team through 2014 at a reported $18 million.

Lind is coming off a big 2009 season in which he posted career highs in games played (151), runs scored (93), hits (179), doubles (46), home runs (35) & runs batted in (114).

Blue Jays’ general manager Alex Anthopoulous issued a statement on Saturday regarding Lind’s signing:

“This is a great player to build around along with Vernon Wells and Aaron Hill and some of the other young players that we do have coming right now. Not only is it an indication to the fan base, but also to those other players in the clubhouse that this is the type of player that we want to make a commitment to.”
