The Minnesota Twins have locked up their star catcher through 2018, as Joe Mauer agreed to a $184 million, 8 year deal with the team on Sunday.
There were rumors that the Twins would let Mauer test free agency concluding the upcoming 2010 season, with the Red Sox & Yankees both heavily interested in his services.
Mauer is one of baseball’s best hitters, as he won his first ever American League batting crown last season with a career-high .365 average. He also had career highs in home runs (28), runs batted in (96), on-base percentage (.444) & slugging percentage (.587).
He will try to help the Twins win back-to-back division titles for the first time since 2003-04.
