With star guard Kalin Lucas out due to injury, Michigan State’s Kalin Lucious saw to it that last season’s National Champion runner-up would not have their season end prematurely.
Lucious nailed a game-winning three as time expired to lift the Spartans to a thrilling 85-83 win over Maryland.
Michigan State junior forward Durrell Summers put in an outstanding game with 26 points, while senior forward Raymar Morgan added 20 points & 9 rebounds.
Maryland was led by senior guard Greivis Vasquez’s 26 points & 8 assists in a losing cause.
The Spartans’ win was costly though, as they lost junior guard Kalin Lucas to a tore Achilles’ tendon in the 1st half, which will most likely sideline him for the rest of the NCAA Tournament.
But for now, Michigan State has a date with Northern Iowa on Friday in St. Louis for a berth to the Elite Eight.
