In the first official game of the 2010 NCAA Tournament, BYU blew an 11-point lead with 8 minutes to go in regulation, but needed two overtimes to hold off Florida 99-92.
Jimmer Fredette was absolutely sensational for BYU, as the junior guard poured in 37 points in 46 minutes of action. Michael Loyd Jr. also came up huge off the bench, as he erupted for 26 points & had 4 of the team’s 12 steals.
Freshman guard Kenny Boynton led Florida with 27 points as the Gators held a 38-29 rebounding edge, but was unable to find a consistent rhythm from outside, connecting on just 10-of-32 (31.2%) of their three-point attempts.
BYU will move on to play #2 seeded Kansas State on Saturday, who blew out North Texas 82-62.
