The Washington Redskins have decided to give Clinton Portis some competition for the starting running back position next season, as they signed Larry Johnson to a 3-year deal on Saturday.
Johnson split his time last season between Kansas City & Cincinnati, while his yards-per-carry fared a bit better as a Bengal (4.4 YPC to 2.9 YPC as a Chief).
He did rush for 107 yards last November 12th against Cleveland, but hasn’t scored a rushing touchdown since December 21st, 2008.
Portis is coming off his worst season as a pro, as injuries limited him to just 8 games in 2009 while averaging career-lows in rushing yards (494), yards per game (61.8), receiving yards per game (7.1), first downs (2) & rushing touchdowns (1).
