In just his 3rd NBA season, Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant already has a franchise mark in his name.
On Friday against New Jersey, Durant scored 32 points to give him a franchise record 36th game with 30 points or more, which surpasses the old mark set by former Sonics start Spencer Haywood during the 1972-1973 season.
The 21-year old forward is quickly emerging as an NBA superstar, as he’s a close 2nd in scoring (29.7 points per game) behind Cleveland’s LeBron James & is a big reason why Oklahoma City is in position to make their first ever playoff appearence.
Nets coach Kiki Vanderweghe came away impressed with Durant’s performance, stating:
“ He (Durant) eventually got himself going. He is a terrific player, top five player in this league. Even though we were hitting him off of somebody every time, he still got his points.”
As for the woeful Nets, they dropped to 7-59 for the season and could still surpass the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers for most losses if they lose 15 of their final 16 games.
