Diamondbacks, Justin Upton agree on contract extension..

The Arizona Diamondbacks have locked up their stud young outfielder to a long term deal, as 22-year old Justin Upton agreed to a $51.2 million, 6 year deal which is the 2nd largest in franchise history.

Upton could be on the verge of a huge year following a successful 2009 season in which he set career highs in games played (138), runs scored (84), hits (158), doubles (30), triples (7), home runs (26), runs batted in (86), stolen bases (20), batting average (.300), on-base percentage (.366) & slugging percentage (.899).

His rising emergence is a big reason why the Diamondbacks decided to cut ties in the offseason with Eric Byrnes, who is now playing for the Seattle Mariners.

Upton will try to help Arizona rebound from a disappointing 2009 season, as their 92 losses were the 3rd highest in team history.
