In a matchup of former USC stars, the Jets’ Mark Sanchez got the better of the Bengals’ Carson Palmer, as New York used a strong run game & good defensive effort to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 24-14.
About the only positive thing that can come out of this game for the Bengals is the play of Cedric Benson, who rushed for 169 yards on 21 carries & had a 47-yard TD burst in the 4th quarter that pulled Cincy within 7.
But rookie back Shonn Greene could not be stopped, as he also exploded for 135 yards on just 21 carries & had a 39-yard burst down the Jets’ sideline in the 2nd quarter to tie the game 7-7.
Shutdown corner Darrelle Revis strengthed his case to win the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award, as he held Chad Ochocinco to just 28 yards on 2 receptions.
The Jets will either travel to Indianapolis or San Diego for their Divisional Playoff matchup next weekend.
