CHICAGO, IL – A person was killed by a CTA bus as it pulled away from a stop on the Far South Side this yesterday, authorities said.
The person, who had not been identified, had been standing on the sidewalk near a bus shelter near 95th Street and South Jeffery Avenue about 9:15 p.m. just before the person was struck by a No. 14 Jeffery bus as it pulled away, said CTA spokeswoman Sheila Gregory.
The Cook County medical examiner’s had been notified of a death at the location of the bus accident, but had no details about the person killed, a spokesman said.
The person apparently had not been a rider on the bus, and was not getting on or off the bus when the accident happened, Gregory said.
The bus was in service at the time of the crash and was carrying passengers, but neither the bus driver nor any of the passengers were injured in the incident, Gregory said.
Police and CTA officials were still on scene about 10:45 p.m., with investigators interviewing the bus driver, Gregory said. She had no information about the driver.
A police spokesman had no information about 10:45 p.m.
