Ann Arbor thriller: Unranked Michigan tops Notre Dame with 11 seconds left

Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier may be a true freshman, but he sure sounded like an upperclassmen after he led the Wolverines to a thrilling last-second touchdown drive, which was capped off by Greg Mathews’ 5-yard game-winner with just 11 seconds left.
Matthews’ TD was enough to lift Michigan over #18 Notre Dame from the Big House in Ann Arbor, as Rich Rodriguez has the Wolverines at 2-0 for the first time since ’06.
Forcier insisted that he “wasn’t nervous” during the game-winning drive, while his head coach Rodriguez added:
“You think they would’ve felt bad for us? Charlie is a good football coach and he’s got a good football team. They’re going to win a lot of games. The quarterback is an NFL guy. They’ve got two of the best wide receivers I’ve seen in years and their running back is a big-time player.”
“And did you see the size of the linemen? They could eat peanuts off our guys’ helmets.”
Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis was upset over a controversial last play, as Golden Tate’s fumble after a 25-yard completion hit the ground with exactly 1 second left on the clock. However, time ran out on the game as Weis commented afterwards that it was “a very disappointing & disheartning loss.”
Jimmy Clausen played an excellent game for the Fighting Irish despite the heartbreaking loss, as the junior quarterback completed 25 for 42 passes for 331 yards & 3 touchdowns without a sack or committing a turnover.
