Mark Buehrle sets MLB record with 45 consecutive batters retired…

Despite the Chicago White Sox’s latest struggles, a historic milestone was reached during Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
Lefthander Mark Buehrle set a major league record with 45 consecutive batters retired, which came to an end after Twins 2nd baseman Alexi Casilla drew a 2-out walk in the bottom of the 6th inning to snap the streak.
The 34,642 fans at the Metrodome gave Buehrle a standing ovation for the accomplishment before going right to work.
Denard Span ruined a possible no-hitter with a single to center, which set up Joe Mauer’s big at-bat.
Mauer hit a ground-rule double past Scott Podsednik in left field, which tied the game 1-1.
The Twins then rallied to take the lead for good against Buehrle in the 7th on Brendan Harris’ RBI single, as the 4-time All-Star was charged with allowing 5 runs on 5 hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched & now has a 5.87 ERA in 4 starts this season against Minnesota.
Mark didn’t even want to talk about his new major league record afterwards, as he was clearly frustrated by the White Sox’s 5th loss in their last 6 games. Said Buehrle: “It’s just frustrating after a loss. It might mean more tomorrow or the next day once I cool off. But I’m not too happy right now.”
Buehrle was able to surpass the old record of 41 straight batters retired by San Francisco Giants pitcher Jim Barr in 1972 & by current teammate Bobby Jenks, who accomplished the feat in 2007.
The Twins & White Sox are tied for 2nd place in the AL Central entering Wednesday’s action.
