Breaking News: Cleveland acquires Shaquille O’Neal

Written by on June 25, 2009

Early Thursday morning, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded for 15-time All-Star center Shaquille O’Neal, who could entice LeBron James to re-sign with his team when the magical summer of 2010 hits.

In return, the Phoenix Suns will receive Ben Wallace (who could end up retiring), Sasha Pavlovic, the 46th pick in tonight’s 2009 NBA Draft & $500, 000 in cash.

This could be James’ best chance to win a championship, as Boston & Orlando both has some uncertainties going into next season.

The Celtics need for Kevin Garnett to be 100% healthy following his knee surgery & also need to strengthen their thin bench, which got exposed in the playoffs.

The Magic will need to find a way to re-sign Hedo Turkoglu, who is their go-to guy in the 4th quarter & can handle the basketball as a point forward.

Jameer Nelson also needs to be 100% as well, as his surprise return from a shoulder injury in February threw off Orlando’s rhythm during their 5-game loss to Los Angeles in the NBA Finals.

O’Neal has averaged 24.7 points in 1,117 career games & has a 25.2 playoff average in 203 games with the Magic, Lakers, Heat & Suns.
