Those 609 career home runs hit by former major league slugger Sammy Sosa needs to have a big asterik next to it.

The New York Times reported on Monday that Sosa tested positive for an unknown performance-enhancing drug in an anoymous survey from 2003, which also featured 103 fellow players.

The survey results became public almost 2 weeks since Sosa announced his retirement in his native homeland of the Dominican Republic.

Since his 40 HR, 103 RBI season in 2003 for the Chicago Cubs, Sosa followed up with three-subpar seasons in which he failed to drive in 100 runs & hit higher than a .260 batting average.

Sosa has yet to release a statement regarding his positive steroid test.
