On Saturday evening in Phoenix, the Houston Astros got a pair of milestone hits from Miguel Tejada & Lance Berkman, which helped their team rally for a 6-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
In the 6th inning, Miguel Tejada tied it with an RBI single which was career hit #2,000.
It will be quite awhile until anyone else joins Tejada in the 2,000 hit club, as Padres’ outfielder Brian Giles is next on the list with 1,897 career hits entering Sunday’s action.
Tejada on his milestone hit contributing to Houston’s win: “That’s why I’m most happy—I got the hit to tie the game. It’s special because I got a chance to do it in front of my family.”
2 batters later, Lance Berkman joined the 300-homer club with a go-ahead 2-run blast to deep right, which gave Houston a 3-1 lead.
Berkman on his 300th career homer: “I take pride in it for sure because there’s not a whole lot of switch-hitters that have gotten to that level. It’s not like 500 homers, but I’ll certainly take it.”
Berkman’s teammate Ivan Rodriguez hit his 300th career homer earlier this season on May 18th against the Chicago Cubs.
