Saluting the Chicago Blackhawks on a great season!

The Blackhawks’ quest for a Stanley Cup officially came to an end with Wednesday night’s 2-1 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings, but the effort that was shown throughout the 2009 NHL playoffs should definitely be appreciated!
With the exception of Sunday’s Game 4 loss, the Hawks played hard & battled until the end during the Western Conference Finals.
However, it appeared that the injuries suffered to right wing Martin Havlat & goalie Nikolai Khabibulin were too much to overcome.
Despite Wednesday’s season-ending loss, backup goalie Cristobal Huet made a SENSATIONAL late-game save in which he lifted his right leg up to help stop a Johan Franzen shot in the closing seconds of regulation.
It looks like Huet will be the Hawks’ main goalie for 2010, as Khalibulin is now a free agent & will most likely not return to the team.
Havlat is also a free agent, so Chicago will need to take a long & hard look at resigning one of their postseason stars despite his injury-filled history.
This Blackhawks team has a lot a young & exciting talent. Provided they make good offseason moves to improve the club, we should see them back in the postseason for next year.
