You better be come Thursday evening, as the Western Conference’s 4th seeded Chicago Blackhawks have a NHL 1st round playoff matchup against the #5 seeded Calgary Flames. Chicago swept the season series, winning all 4 games.
The Blackhawks are in the playoffs for the first time since 2002 & enter with some momentum after winning 6 of 7 games this month, which includes a back-to-back sweep over Detroit.
Calgary sports a lethal combination of right wing Jarome Iginla & left wing Michael Cammalleri, who both rank in the NHL’s top 15 in points scored.
Iginla is also tied for 10th in the league with 54 assists.
Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff leads the NHL with 45 wins, so it looks like the young Blackhawks will have their work cut out for them if they plan to advance to the 2nd round.
Chicago uses a goaltending platoon of Nikolai Khabibulin & Cristobal Huet, who have combined for 45 wins & 6 shutouts this season.
Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews leads the team with 34 goals, while right wing Martin Havlat is 2nd with 29.
Calgary has lost in the Conference Quarterfinals in each of the last 3 years since appearing in the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals against Tampa Bay.
The Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 7 games.
