Cop Shot Off Duty: Almost Car Jacked

CHICAGO, IL – An off duty police officer was shot this morning at around 2:30 am in the Auburn Gresham area on the South Side.

Chicago Breaking News is calling it an attempted car jacking.  No suspects are in custody.

The incident occurred about 2:50 a.m. in the 8700 block of Halsted Street, News Affairs Officer John Henry said citing preliminary information.

An offender apparently approached and shot the 36-year-old male officer in the arm, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the officer and the offender, Henry said.

The officer was taken to an area hospital in good condition, he said.

Nobody was in custody as of 3:40 a.m., he said.

No further information on the case was immediately available.
