Michael Jordan elected to 2009 Basketball Hall of Fame

Was there seriously any doubt?

On his 1st ballot attempt, Michael Jordan will now be a Hall of Famer alongside John Stockton, David Robinson, Jerry Sloan & C. Vivian Stringer.

Jordan leads the way, with having won 6 NBA Championships with the Chicago Bulls (1991-93 & 1996-98), 1 Olympic Gold Medal (1992 Barcelona Games) & a National Championship with North Carolina (1982 over Georgetown).

Jordan’s 32,292 career points ranks 3rd on the NBA’s all-time list, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar & Karl Malone.

Jordan also holds the all-time mark with 5,987 points scored during the playoffs in 179 career games.

David Robinson, aka “The Admiral” will be a Hall of Famer after finishing his entire 14-year career with the San Antonio Spurs.

During that timeframe, Robinson was elected to 10 All-Star teams (1990-96, 1998, 2000-01), 4 All-NBA first team selections (1991-92, 1995-96), 4 All-Defensive first team selections (1991-92, 1995-96), won 2 NBA Championships (1999 & 2003), 1 Olympic Gold Medal (1992) & won the 1995’s Most Valuable Player award.

John Stockton will be a Hall of Famer after finishing his entire 19-year career with the Utah Jazz.

Stockton was elected to 10 All-Star appearences (1989-97 & 2000) & 2 All-NBA first team selections.

Stockton also holds all-time records for most career assists (15,806) & steals (3,265).

C. Vivian Stringer is one of the most successful woman college basketball coaches in history, as her 813 career wins ranks 3rd on the all-time list.

Rutger has taken 3 different schools (Cheyney State, Iowa & Rutgers) to the Final Four & served as Rutgers’ spokesperson following the wake on Don Imus’ derogatory remarks on April 4th, 2007.

Speaking of Michael Jordan….

His youngest son Marcus announced his choice for college today, which will surprise many…the University of Central Florida.

UCF has just 4 career NCAA Tournament appearences in their 24-year history & only one currently active NBA player, which is Joey Graham of the Toronto Raptors. (Graham later transferred to Oklahoma State University)
