Just 14 months ago, Plaxico Burress became a national hero after his game-winning touchdown catch helped stun New England in Super Bowl XLII.

Now, he’s a free agent who is looking for work.

The New York Giants released Burress on Friday after an accidental shooting cost him 6 games plus the Giants’ divisional playoff loss to Philadelphia.

Burress’ last game with the Giants came just 12 days before his shooting incident, as he caught 3 receptions for 47 yards during the team’s 30-10 win over Baltimore.

Plaxico is coming off perhaps his most disappointing NFL season, as he caught just 35 receptions (tied for 2nd lowest total of career) for 454 yards (2nd lowest), 45.4 yards per game (2nd lowest) , 13.0 yards per catch (2nd lowest) , 1.6 yards per catch (career-low), & (25 first downs (2nd lowest) .

Burress’ best NFL season to date was in 2002 with Pittsburgh, as he totaled career-highs in receptions (78), receiving yards (1,325), yards per game (82.8) & first downs (64).
