Officer Robert Powell of the Dallas Police Department has resigned following a March 18th incident in which he stopped Houston Texans’ running back Ryan Moats.

Moats ran a red light & explained to the officer that his mother-in-law was dying, but Powell ignored Moats’ request & not only wrote him a ticket, but pulled out his gun & threatened Moats with receiving jailtime.

Powell issued a public apology on Friday, stating that “he didn’t know what his punishment would be, but hopes to keep his job”.

Ryan Moats & his wife Tamishia issued the following statement on Monday through the Houston Texans:

“The Moats family would like to thank the public for all their support and for expressing their condolences during this difficult time. ” “We will now be focusing on our family and healing during this time of grievance.”

Moats has mostly been used as a backup in his 3 NFL seasons & has 441 rushing yards in 24 games with 4 touchdowns.
