See how popular this blogging thing is getting? 🙂

It’s how 42-year old Curt Schilling announced his retirement earlier today after recently pondering whether to join the Tampa Bay Rays or the Chicago Cubs as a veteran acquisition.

Of course, everyone will remember the infamous “bloody sock” that Schilling pitched in during Game 6 of the 2004 American League Championship Series to help the Boston Red Sox pull off an improbable 0-3 deficit to stun the New York Yankees in 7 games.

In Game 6, Schilling pitched 7 innings & allowed just 1 run on 4 hits. Curt famously said after the game that “I’m not sure I can think of any scenario more enjoyable than making 55,000 people from New York shut up.”

Schilling finishes his 21 year career with 216 victories in 569 games, 3,261 innings pitched with a career 3.46 ERA.

Schilling enjoyed some of his best seasons as a Arizona Diamondback, where he won 20 games in back-to-back seasons (2001 & 2002) and helped Arizona win the 2001 World Series over the heavily-favored New York Yankees.

Schilling made 6 All-Star appearences during his career, won 3 World Series rings & won the National League’s 1993 MVP award as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Schilling’s last major league game was on October 25th, 2007 as he pitched 5 1/3 innings while allowing 1 run on 4 hits during Boston’s 2-1 win in Game 2 of the World Series against Colorado at Fenway Park.
