Whitney Young Boys BasketBall in State Finals!

Written by on March 21, 2009

Whitney Young will play for the boy’s 4a state championship tonight against Waukegan.

Marcus Jordan was named player of the game in last night’s semi-final game against Thornton, and is ready to face Jereme Richmond, Colin Nickerson and the Waukegan squad.

The Dolphins fell short of the Public League City Championship in the semi-finals, but can now show the state and the world the boatload of talent on the team, which goes deep as potentially eight division I players.

No joke.

ChicagoHoops.com: Whitney Young has taken the toughest road of any other team to find their way to the state championship game overcoming the likes of Fenwick, Morton, Chicago De La Salle and Chicago Hyde Park ahead of knocking off Thornton in the semifinals. They are a very deep, and a highly talented team that features as many as 8 future Division I college players.

If and when the Doplhins win this game, this will be the schools second state title in boy’s basketball.

This reporter is very biased, giving that I’m a Young alumni (c/o ’89) and a Dolphin to the fullest (football, basketball, track).  However, Scout.com gives Waukegan a chance:

Whitney Young has the speed to handle Waukegans pressure and fast breaks.  Whitney Young is deep, with lots of speed, and height.  Waukegan has the best player on the floor and another hell of a player in Nickerson.

My opinion is Waukegan wont get as many fast break points and this game will rest on Mr. Richmonds shoulders. If he can take over and get Waukegan buckets in the halfcourt Waukegan can win. But, mark my words they need Jrich to takeover.

Good luck to Wuakegan and I hope it’s a good game…. but I’m ready to celebrate another state title for Young!!!
