Lil Wayne’s Court Date Set For Felony Gun Charges

Written by on February 26, 2009

Four Grammys will not be enough to keep Hip-Hop Rock Star Lil’ Wayne outta court.

A New York judge has set his court date for April 20th, and the judge also admitted a gun found on Lil’ Wayne’s tour bus as evidence per AP:

A New York City judge says a handgun found on rapper Lil Wayne’s tour bus can be used as evidence at his trial. Justice Charles Solomon set April 20 as the hip-hopper’s trial date.

The gun being admitted as evidence is a big blow, but Lil Waye’s lawyer Stacey Richmond contends that the police search was illegal.

The officer in the case, Diane Hourning, contends that she smelled weed smoke coming from the tour bus, but Richmond is saying that she was too far away from the bus to tell:

While Hornung claims she noticed marijuana smoke coming from his tour bus following a concert on July 22, 2007, Richman pointed out the officer’s distance being an outstanding factor. “She wasn’t anywhere near where she said she was [at the time of the incident],” he said.

If I understand this correctly, I am very curious as to how one can look at smoke and determine that is weed smoke as opposed to smoke from a square or cigar.

However, I’m equally curious as to why celebrities don’t have people on their team that are qualified to legal protect them.  The officer’s testimony per SOHH:

New York police officer Diane Hornung testified that on July 22nd of last year she boarded Weezy’s tour bus after identifying marijuana smoke coming from its open door. While on the bus she claims to have seen the rapper (born Dwayne Carter) sitting on a bed and trying to conceal a bag which she said held a loaded .40 caliber handgun. The rapper had just finished performing at a concert at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre.

I hate seing these brah’s in felony trials, and that can be avoided sometimes by being smart.
