Colts to release veteran WR Marvin Harrison
Written by The Go-To-Man Mattie T. on February 23, 2009
If Marvin Harrison plans to return for a 14th season, it won’t be with the team that selected him with the 19th overall pick in the 1996 NFL Draft.
The Indianapolis Colts plan on officially releasing the 8-time Pro Bowler on Tuesday or Wednesday & rumors are already surfacing about Harrison signing with his hometown team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Harrison showed last season that he is indeed nearing the end of a future HOF career, as he averaged career-lows in receiving yards (636), receiving yards per game (42.4), yards per catch (10.6) and receiving touchdowns (5). (In 15 games or more)
In Harrison’s last game as a Colt, he caught just 3 receptions for 20 yards during Indianapolis’ 23-17 Wild Card loss to San Diego on January 4th, 2009.
Marvin Harrison was one of the NFL’s most dynamic receivers from 1999-2006, as he averaged 103 receptions, 1,402 receiving yards & 13 receiving touchdowns per season.
Harrison needs 3 more receiving touchdowns to surpass Cris Carter (130 career TD’s) for 4th place on the NFL’s all-time list.
