Once dubbed as “White Chocolate” during his earlier playing days with the Sacramento Kings, Jason Williams is looking to end his short retirement which lasted just 5 months.
Williams’ rights are still owned by the Los Angeles Clippers, who already have 2 active point guards (Baron Davis & Fred Jones) on their roster.
3rd-string point guard & Chicago native Mike Taylor has been sidelined since December 19th, 2008 with a broken right thumb injury.
Williams’ last NBA game before his retirement was on April 16th, 2008 for the Miami Heat. Williams scored 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting & hit 5 three-pointers during the Heat’s 113-99 over the Atlanta Hawks.
Williams was also the Heat’s starting point guard on their championship-winning team from the 2005-06 season, who defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games to capture the franchise’s first ever title.
A decision will be made by the Board of Governors on Friday to see if Williams can bypass the one year mandatory waiting period for players wishing to return from the voluntary retired list.
