Before i say anything else, gotta give big ups to Chicago Bulls’ rookie guard Derrick Rose!!! Rose won last night’s Playstation Skills Challenge by defeating New Jersey’s Devin Harris in the Finals.
Rose’s 35.3 second finish is the highest time for a winner since the competition started during the 2002-03 season.
He even pulled off a nice double-pump reverse dunk at the end, which can be seen here:
In the three-point shootout, Miami’s Daequan Cook emerged as the unlikely winner after first knocking off Toronto’s Jason Kapono (who was attempting to become just the 3rd three-time winner) & Orlando’s Rashard Lewis (148 made three-pointers leads the NBA) to become the 3rd player in Heat franchise history to win the shootout.
In the NBA’s first All-Star edition of H-O-R-S-E, Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant staved off an early deficit to come back & defeat Memphis’ O.J. Mayo in a competitive shootout that lasted nearly the timed hour of action.
To cap off the evening, New York’s Nate Robinson used Orlando’s Dwight Howard as a prop & dunked over him, which won him 52% of online fan voting to win his 2nd Slam Dunk Contest crown in the last 4 years.
LeBron James also confirmed that he will be participating in the 2010 Slam Dunk Contest which will be held at the Dallas Cowboys’ new $1.3 billion dollar stadium.
Tonight is the main event! The NBA will hold its’ 58th midseason classic in Phoenix, Arizona as the Eastern Conference will look for their 4th win in the past 5 years against the Western Conference.
This will be just the 3rd NBA All-Star Game ever played in the city of Phoenix, as the Eastern Conference won 108-102 in 1975 (Walt Frazier was named MVP) & the Western Conference won 139-112 in 1995 (Mitch Richmond was named MVP).
Cleveland’s LeBron James, Los Angeles’ Kobe Bryant & Detroit’s Allen Iverson can all try to become the first 3-time All-Star Game MVP winner tonight since Michael Jordan did it in 1988, 1996 & 1998.
Enjoy the game tonight folks!
