Super Bowl XLIII now officially “most-watched ever”

Nielsen Media Research confirmed yesterday that Sunday’s Cardinals-Steelers game drew a total of 98.7 million viewers, which topped last year’s Patriots-Giants duel of 97.5 million viewers.
The combination of Pittsburgh going for their NFL-record 6th Super Bowl win plus the chance of Arizona trying to win their first championship since 1947 kept viewers interested, and they sure did watch a classic finish!
Last year, the New England Patriots were denied of completing an undefeated season with a 17-14 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.
Similarities to the past two Super Bowls? Not only did both contests go right down to the wire, but both Santonio Holmes & Plaxico Burress’ game-winning touchdown catches came with exactly 35 seconds remaining! (Plus, both of them were scored in the opponents’ end zone…interesting stuff wouldn’t you say?) 🙂
