Kerry Wood givin’ some love back to the City of Chicago…

Written by on January 18, 2009

Kerry Wood’s 13-year era with the Cubs ended on December 13th, 2008 when the free-agent pitcher signed a 2-year deal with the Cleveland Indians.

That didn’t stop Wood from thanking his beloved fans, as he has full-page ads in today’s Sports sections of both the Chicago Tribune & the Chicago Sun-Times.

Wood’s statement reads as follows:

It has been an honor to have been a Chicago Cub for the last 13 years and to have played in the greatest ballpark, Wrigley Field. My deepest thanks go to my teammates and the Cubs organization for taking a chance on a kid from Texas and welcoming me into the Cubs family. Thank you Cubs fans, the greatest fans in all of baseball, for believing in me and supporting me over the years. I will always be proud to have been a Chicago Cub. Although I’m a member of a new “Tribe”, i will forever be a Chicagoan.

Pictures included in Wood’s full-page ad consist of the day he signed with the Chicago Cubs in ’95, a photo of Wood with the minor-league Daytona Cubs, Wood’s 20K game in just his 5th career start against the Houston Astros as a rookie in ’98 & a photo of Wood pitching for the Cubs last season.

Even though Woody is no longer in town, he will always be considered as an all-time great here in the City of Chicago.

I guess this will give me good reason to watch Cleveland Indians games now next season, to follow both Wood & fellow ex-Cub Mark DeRosa. 🙂
