Byron Leftwich to the Bears?

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Byron Leftwich is busy preparing this week for the AFC title game against the Baltimore Ravens. However, Leftwish isn’t so consumed with work that he isn’t pondering a potential future with the Chicago Bears.

Leftwich told the Chicago Sun-Times on Sunday that he would love to hear from the Bears during the free agency signing period, adding that he wishes the Bears had drafted him in 2003 when he was coming off a starring role at Marshall.

“We are in the playoff run right now, so I don’t even want to go there, but tell them to look me up,” Leftwich said. ”I’m a fan of Lovie Smith, I’ll just say that. I thought that was where I was going to go in the beginning. I remember hoping that I would go there . I just wanted to be a part of the tradition, the history of the Bears. You’re growing up, watching games at Soldier Field on TV, I wanted to be a part of that coming out. I thought there was a chance I would go there.

”I want a chance to go somewhere and play. I guess everybody wanted to see if I am healthy, and now they can see it. I’m ready to play again.

A four-year starter with the Jacksonville Jaguars before falling out of favor with coach Jack Del Rio, Leftwich’s desire to become a starter again and the Bears’ need for stability at quarterback could link up. Recovered from chronic ankle injuries that plagued him in Jacksonville, Leftwich completed 21 of 36 passes for 303 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season.
