Caught on Video: Bay Area Rapid Transit Officer Shoots Unarmed Man in the Back

Written by on January 9, 2009

Oscar Grant III was shot in the back and killed as he lay face down by a Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer, and a passenger caught it on video.

Police responded to the Fruitvale station in the Bay area after reports of a fight on the train.

The passenger who shot the video chooses to remain unknown.

The video shows the victim apparently cooperating, on his knees with his hands behind his head.  One officer then slams him to the ground.

Maybe it was something the victim said.  Apparently the officer felt threatened because his “life is on the line” everyday.  We can’t hear what was said, but this writer has been a victim more than twice of a police officer flexing, when they are supposed to be serving and protecting.

What’s happened next is an example of why one should not resist the police… no matter how wrong they are.

The victim appears to react to being slammed and having a knee in his neck.  One officer apparently feels very threatened, and feels the need to pull out his gun.

He immediately shoots the unarmed man, who had his face to the ground.  Several other officers were standing right there.

I ask you people to first watch the footage, then ask yourself… “What the fuck?
